BBGov: 'Under God'/history?

Question Response
-----------------

Term 'Under God' and history?'
by Ashley Hand

Q. If memory serves me correctly wasn't
the United States founded on the basis of
religious freedom?
Now I will be the first to say that
religion and government should be
totally separate things but if you take
the "Under God" out of the pledge
aren't you just denying your past history?

------
A1 Past:

A1-a. Is Past our Future --
The term 'under God' in our pledge
or the term 'In God we Trust' on our coins
are mottos, and a motto indicates goals of today
and not of our past. In contrast, we
have a lot in our past we would not want
be as our motto, hence we keep quiet about
them. The point is that past should not
be our future, but we should learn from our past.

A1-b Denying Past -- The question is
which past. The unfortunate part is that
our leaders will pick history facts or
even makeup history facts for mottos
so they can add credibility to their
own political agenda. This is politics as usual.

A2 -- "totally separate"

Your said "religion and government should
be totally separate".
This phrase is a motto of our country,
yet Faith Based initiatives, meaning the
direct payment to churches, further expands
the role of our government into religion.
The question I have for you is,
would you deny your church Faith
Based Federal monies?
What if you knew the money was borrowed,
would you deny the church the money?
What if they put the debt on your credit card,
would you deny the church the money?

Thanks Ashley for the Question.
